On Sunday, January 14 we held a service of celebration to honour Thérèse Billingham who has resigned from our choir after 52 years of faithful service. Family and friends, and even a few past priests gathered for a communion service followed by a simple reception in the church hall.
Reverend Nick took time in the service to recognise her contributions and took the above selfie of the gathering. A lot of happy faces! Everyone stayed afterwards for the always delicious offering of food.
Thérèse has always loved to sing and possesses a beautiful and pure voice. She joined the choir as soon as her four children were able to sit peacefully in the front pew. That was 15 priests and 3 organists ago!. At the time, our choir was a little bigger and I am happy to say that we are still blessed with about 10 loyal members. Thérèse has sung many solos over the years, probably the most poignant was at this past Christmas Eve service - her final moment to take that front seat in the choir stalls. She will now be sitting amongst the congregaton enhancing - and I daresay, vastly improving the sounds coming from the pews.
The members of the choir will miss her leadership and the entire congregation is very thankful for her 52 years of dedication and devotion to St. Simeon`s and for the melodious gift of her voice. We wish her many more years of sharing that gift with us. Heartfelt thanks and appreciation to you Thérèse!
Many thanks to Janine Legault and Rev. Nick for their contributions to the pictures.
